Youth in Revolt have been around since 2012 and The Broken is their debut studio album. The New Jersey post hardcore 5-some had a bumpy ride into getting a full length studio album.

The band had some major hype in 2014 when they released their debut EP Love Is A Liar’s Game. But in 2015 the band went on hiatus. In 2016 a new line up for the band was announced and signing with Outerloop Records has lead us to the release of The Broken and here it is!

The start of The Broken hits you in the face, That’s the best way i can explain it. The first song Noise which is aptly named you are hit instantly with a heavy riff , then onto some clean vocals from Tanner. Noise is a highly catchy song and the breakdown around 1:50 gives the song an edge. The only downside to this track is the screams feel a little disjointed and may have worked better as just a clean track.

The notable tracks on The Broken are Not Giving Up , The Broken and There For You all 3 of these tracks are worth the price of admission alone , some of the softer tracks such as Brisbane & Only One are a nice pace change and bring out a different vibe from the rest of the tracks. Alright seems a little out of place as it sounds more like a pop song than a rock song , But you can give the guys their due in trying to appeal to a wider audience.

The Broken is a album most fans expected and wanted from Youth in Revolt after the wait its well worth a listen. You can tell that the band knew what they wanted to make and have perfected the sound they where aiming for. So people may be put off by the poppier side of the album , But this is not reason enough to ignore this album. Give it ago especially if your a fan of Pierce the Veil or Sleeping with Sirens.
