The View From Ruin is the latest EP released by UK based The Fallen State. They announced that the EP would be released today (24th February) a coupe of weeks ago, The EP follows on from their previous well played and well received EPs I, II, III, and ‘Crown Your Shadows. Collectively this is their most solid release to date. The EP feels mature and the lyrics well placed.

The EP consists of 5 tracks:

• The Quickening
• Four Letter Word
• Nova
• Sleepless
• Lifetime

The album starts with The Quickening , which has a nice intro which moves from a soft syth like effect to a fast paced heavy guitar riff, which moves on to Ben;s emotion felt rusky vocals , there are a lot of influences you can take from the fist song , The band are known Shinedown fans and you can feel that affiliation from the start. The breakdown is well placed around the 2 minute mark which leads onto an awesome riff.

Four Letter Word is up next and is a slower softer song than The Quickening (maybe the name was intentional). This song feels emotional and hits hard in the right spots with another great solo around 2:30.

Nova , is the single released off the album which you can hear in the video above. I get the feeling this song was written for radio play.

The soft lyrics work extremely well with the softer accompanying music , i could imagine this song easily sitting next to any Daughtry or Alter Bridge track.

Nova feels like a highly emotional track which Ben’s voice accompanies well. Lets just hope it gets the radio play it deserves! The solo riff at the end deserves a mention to as it continues behind Ben’s lyrics for a while which gives off a great sound.

The last two songs on the album are Sleepless and Lifetime , Sleepless is another quicker track with an intro that reminds me of Sixx AM a little. This one definatly feels like one of the heavier tracks on the EP as we even get some slight screamier vocals.

Lifetime rounds up the EP and does it well with another solid track, The chorus on this one is a particular highlight , as they try something different with the duel lyrics.

Overall The View From Ruin EP is a solid piece and makes me look forward to a full release. The Fallen State have huge potential and from the Youtube reaction to Nova I get the feeling we will be hearing a lot more about The Fallen State  , So watch this space!
